Renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that foreign powers are aiding terrorists in Nigeria.
He made the claim during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, stating that recent patterns of attacks across the country point to external support for armed groups. According to him, the resurgence of violence contradicts earlier signs of improvement in national security.
Gumi cited the Abuja–Kaduna highway—which had become significantly safer in recent months—and the gradual return of farmers to their farmlands in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, as proof that progress was being made before the sudden uptick in attacks.
He argued that the sharp reversal raises serious questions that Nigeria cannot overlook.
The cleric called on the government to strengthen intelligence gathering, deepen diplomatic efforts, and investigate all foreign links potentially fuelling insecurity in the country.
