Actress Bimbo Akintola has spoken about the backlash she faced during the last election, saying many Nigerians attempted to intimidate her over her political choice.
In a recent interview on With Chude, she explained that what pushed her to publicly support President Bola Tinubu was the online harassment she saw directed at veteran actress Joke Silva, who had simply declared her preference.
Bimbo said:
“Nigerians annoy me. Don’t bully other people. We all have the right to differ in opinion. You don’t like this man? Fine, that’s your right. You prefer someone else? No problem. But bullying people because of their choice is wrong.”
She added that she made a video back then addressing the trolls directly:
“I said, ‘Okay, I’m going for the same person. Kill me. Feel free. Kill me. Let me see you change my mind with your bullying.’”
Bimbo stressed that political disagreements are normal, but Nigerians must learn to allow differing opinions without hostility.
