Former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has advised President Bola Tinubu to forget any ambition of seeking a second term in 2027 and instead hand over the ticket to a younger, more capable candidate within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a Channels TV interview on Sunday night, November 30, Baba-Ahmed said President Tinubu has failed to display the urgency and leadership Nigeria currently requires, despite his long-standing reputation as a master political strategist.
According to him, the Tinubu Nigerians expected is not the Tinubu currently governing.
“I’m sorry, but I have to say this again. When I left the administration, I told many people that I wished President Tinubu would not run again in 2027.
He had one ambition — to become president — and he has achieved that. He said ‘emi lokan’ and he got his turn. But I don’t think he has run the country well.
The Tinubu we used to know, the one with brilliant political intelligence, has not shown that same hunger to fix things.”
Baba-Ahmed urged the president to look within the APC and support a younger, healthier, more focused candidate who can give Nigeria the leadership it desperately needs.
“He has all the political power he needs. If he can pull people from the PDP, he can also find a strong successor. But he is not running the country the way it should be run,” he added.
Commenting further, he referenced the federal response to recent national issues, stating:
“I didn’t see a president responding to an emergency with the seriousness it demanded. And it’s not just about this issue — Nigeria has deteriorated too badly for us to continue pretending everything is normal.”
