U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore has announced that President Donald Trump has directed him and the Republican-led House Appropriations Committee to launch a full congressional investigation into alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
Moore disclosed the instruction in a post on his verified X account, noting that it follows growing reports claiming that thousands of Christians across Nigeria have faced attacks, discrimination, and pressure because of their faith.
He revealed that the committee had already begun preliminary work on the matter, but Trump’s latest order will expand the inquiry and push for a deeper fact-finding effort.
According to him, the committee will hold a roundtable session with security experts, human rights groups, and religious leaders to better understand the alleged violations of religious freedom and the broader security situation in different parts of Nigeria.
Moore added that the goal of the session is to “build on the work we’ve done so far” by gathering more detailed information and first-hand testimonies.
