The United States Department of War has released video footage showing recent military strikes against ISIS terrorists in northern Nigeria.
The release follows an announcement by US President Donald Trump, who on Thursday confirmed that American forces carried out what he described as a “powerful and deadly” operation targeting Islamic State elements in the country.
The footage, shared by the US military, shows at least one projectile being launched from a warship during the operation. However, no specific details were provided regarding the scale of the damage or the total number of casualties.
In a Christmas evening post on his Truth Social platform, President Trump said the strikes were ordered in response to sustained attacks by ISIS militants, whom he accused of targeting and killing innocent Christians.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians,” Trump wrote.
US Africa Command later confirmed the operation in a statement, noting that the strike was conducted in Sokoto State in coordination with Nigerian authorities. According to the command, multiple ISIS militants were killed during the operation, which was carried out on the orders of President Trump and the US Secretary of War.
