Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has recounted a terrifying incident that occurred during the filming of Omo Ghetto: The Saga, revealing that armed robbers once attacked the hotel where the cast and crew were lodged in Ebute Metta, Lagos.
Speaking in a recent interview on With Chide, Bimbo disclosed that the attackers appeared to be specifically targeting Funke Akindele, the film’s producer and lead actress, following earlier clashes with hoodlums around the filming location.
According to her, the production frequently faced disruptions because the movie’s street-themed storyline mirrored the reality of some youths in the area, which caused tension. Despite having security on ground, the situation escalated one night after filming had wrapped up.
Bimbo narrated that close to midnight, loud noises and shouts of “Ole” suddenly filled the area as the attackers attempted to force their way into the hotel. Panic set in immediately, and the women began praying as the intruders tried to gain access.
Realising that Funke Akindele was the main target, the actresses tried to hide her inside one of the rooms. However, the attackers eventually broke in, repeatedly calling Funke’s name before dragging her downstairs to her car.
She recalled that Funke was forced at gunpoint to sing and dance, while several other armed men remained stationed outside the hotel, leaving everyone completely helpless.
Bimbo said security operatives were eventually alerted, gunshots were fired, and the attackers fled the scene.
Describing the incident as a close brush with death, she said the experience left a deep emotional scar on everyone involved.
“We truly thank God,” she added, reflecting on a night that could have ended tragically.
