Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has expressed deep sorrow over the terrorist attack on communities in Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
At least 30 people were killed when terrorists attacked Kasuwan Daji market in Sukumbara village on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Several residents, including women and children, were also abducted, while sources say many livelihoods were destroyed in the incident.
In a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the attack as cruel and nefarious, condemning the loss of lives and the suffering inflicted on innocent citizens.
“He extends his deepest sympathy to the people of the affected communities, especially the victims and their families,” the statement said.
The governor noted that those affected by the attack were Muslims and Christians drawn from different communities within Borgu Local Government Area, stressing that the violence cut across religious and communal lines.
Governor Bago described it as disturbing and worrying to begin the year with such a tragic incident. He urged residents to remain steadfast in faith, assuring them that his administration is working closely with the federal government and security agencies to strengthen security in the affected areas.
According to the statement, a joint security task force is currently trailing the attackers with the aim of rescuing those abducted.
“The farmer governor prays that God will grant eternal rest to the departed, ensure the safe rescue of the kidnapped victims, bring healing to the injured, and restore livelihoods that were destroyed,” the statement added.
