The Society of Digital Newspaper Owners of Nigeria (SDNON) has received with deep shock and profound sorrow the tragic news of the death of seven journalists and media professionals in a fatal road accident along the Biliri–Kumo Road in Gombe State.
This heartbreaking incident represents an immense loss, not only to the families and loved ones of the deceased, but also to the Nigerian media industry and the nation at large. The journalists who lost their lives were committed professionals who served the public with dedication, integrity, and a strong sense of duty. Their contributions to public enlightenment and nation-building will not be forgotten.
SDNON commiserates with the Government and people of Gombe State, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the management and staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), StarTimes, the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board, and the entire media community over this irreparable loss.
The association also extends its heartfelt sympathy to those who sustained injuries in the accident and are currently receiving medical attention, praying for their speedy and full recovery.
At this difficult time, SDNON calls for renewed and sustained attention to road safety measures across the country to curb the recurring loss of lives, especially among professionals travelling in the course of public service.
In addition, SDNON extends its condolences to the families of the two individuals who lost their lives in a separate road accident involving British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. We mourn their passing and pray that God grants their families strength and comfort, while wishing Mr. Joshua a full and speedy recovery.
